Elateia was an ancient Greek city of Phthiotis, the most important place in the region after Delphi, and remains a modern town in the southeastern part of Phthiotis. Since the 2011 local government reform it forms a municipal unit within the municipality of Amfikleia-Elateia, with a population of about 2,804 and a land area of roughly 154 square kilometers; its municipal seat is the town of Elateia itself, alongside the smaller communities of Zeli, Panagitsa, Lefkochori and Sfaka.
