Elazig is a city in the Eastern Anatolia region of Turkey and the administrative center of both Elazig Province and Elazig District. Founded in and around the former city of Harput, it sits in the uppermost Euphrates valley on a plain at an altitude of 1,067 meters, appearing as an inland peninsula surrounded by the natural Lake Hazar and the reservoirs of the Keban, Karakaya, Kiralkizi and Ozluce dams. Its population was recorded at 387,072 in the 2022 census.
