Elek is a town in Békés County in the Southern Great Plain of southeastern Hungary. Until the Second World War it held the largest concentration of Germans in the county, a population almost entirely Swabian, alongside a Jewish community established in the 19th century that was largely destroyed in the 1944 Holocaust.
