Encarnacion, Paraguay

Encarnacion is a district and the capital city of Itapua Department in Paraguay, on the western shore of the Parana River across from Posadas, Argentina, and the country's third largest city. Founded as a Jesuit mission on 25 March 1615 under the name Nuestra Senora de la Anunciacion de Itapua and relocated to its present site in 1703, it was renamed Nuestra Senora de la Encarnacion de Itapua and became seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Encarnacion in 1957. The 2022 census recorded 106,842 residents, with a greater metropolitan area of about 200,000, and the city is Paraguay's coldest, having recorded the country's first snowfall in 1975; in 1926 an F5 tornado killed at least 300 people there, the deadliest tornado in South American history, and Encarnacion hosted the 2003 Futsal Men's World Cup.
