Epizephyrian Locris

Epizephyrian Locris was an ancient Greek city of Magna Graecia on the Ionian coast of Calabria in southern Italy, its site near the modern town of Locri, which takes its name from the ancient settlement. It was founded at the beginning of the 7th century BC by settlers from Locris in central Greece, the last Greek colony established in Calabria after earlier waves of Achaean colonization, and it became known during the Classical and Hellenistic periods for producing athletes who competed in the Panhellenic Games. The city was recorded by ancient authors including Strabo, Pausanias, Plutarch, Polybius and Diodorus Siculus, and documents found at Olympia in 2018 added further references to it.
