Erdenet is the provincial capital of Orkhon and the second-largest city in Mongolia. Located in northern Mongolia in a valley between the Selenge and Orkhon rivers, it lies about 240 kilometers northwest of the national capital Ulaanbaatar and near Darkhan, with the road between Ulaanbaatar and Erdenet running about 370 kilometers. As of the 2026 census the city had a population of 112,520.
