Founding YearEarliest attested mention is a Gupta-era copper-plate inscription dated 465 CE naming the site Indrapura. The article separately states the modern city traces its roots to a 16th-century founding as a trading hub, with no single year given for that later re-founding; the History section also dates the settlement's rise as a local administrative headquarters to 1720. 465 CE is recorded as the earliest concrete attested date; the later candidates are named rather than dropped.
