Indore is the largest city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, serving as capital of the eponymous district and division. Founded as a trading post in the eighteenth century and later capital of the princely state of the Holkar dynasty, Indore has repeatedly been ranked India's cleanest city in national surveys and has grown into the state's leading commercial and educational center.
