The second-most populous city in Switzerland and the most populous in French-speaking Romandy, situated in the southwest of the country where the Rhone river leaves Lake Geneva, serving as the capital of the Republic and Canton of Geneva. A global city, international financial center and worldwide center for diplomacy, it has earned the nickname the Peace Capital.
