Gniew

Gniew is a historic town on the left bank of the Vistula River in the Pomeranian Voivodeship of northern Poland, with about 6,870 inhabitants as of 2016. One of the oldest towns in Eastern Pomerania, it received town privileges in 1297 from the Teutonic Knights, who built it into a stronghold anchored by a large Brick Gothic castle that still stands as a regional landmark. The town preserves medieval and early modern architecture from the 15th through 19th centuries, including a Gothic church built in the 14th century, and once hosted John III Sobieski, later King of Poland.
