Grójec is a town in east central Poland, in the Masovian Voivodeship about forty kilometres south of Warsaw, first settled in the eleventh century and granted town rights in 1419 by Duke Janusz I of Warsaw. It lies on a historic trade route between Warsaw and Kraków and is today the center of Poland's leading apple growing region, with roughly one in three apples sold in Poland grown nearby. During the Second World War the town was bombed and occupied, and a Jewish ghetto established in November 1940 was liquidated the following February. Grójec had 16,674 inhabitants in 2017.
