Gutersloh

Gutersloh is a city in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, part of the Detmold administrative district. The modern city was formed in 1969 when eight municipalities, including Avenwedde, Ebbesloh, Friedrichsdorf, Hollen, Isselhorst, Niehorst and Spexard, merged under North Rhine-Westphalian municipal reforms. As of December 2025 the population was approximately 99,854 across 112.02 square kilometers, and the city is best known as home to the media company Bertelsmann, which employs 11,300 workers in the district, alongside the appliance manufacturer Miele. Gutersloh hosts approximately 13,000 Syriac-Arameans, a notably larger community than in other German cities, and it served as an official training base for Portugal's national team during the 2006 FIFA World Cup at the Heidewaldstadion.
