Hachen

Western Europe

Hachen is an Ortschaft, or subdivision, of the town of Sundern in the Hochsauerland district of Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia state, the second largest of Sundern's subdivisions, lying between the Arnsberg Forest and Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature parks about three kilometers from the Sorpesee lake. It has documented roots in monastic records dating to 793 and developed market rights and guild privileges during the medieval period, surviving a fire in 1845 before losing its independent municipal status when it merged into Sundern on 1 January 1975. Today it has about 2,773 residents.
