Hai Phong is a port city in northern Vietnam, about 120 kilometers east of Hanoi, one of the country's five centrally governed municipalities and, prior to a 2025 administrative merger, the third largest city in Vietnam by population with roughly 2.07 million residents recorded in 2021. Its harbor, the Port of Hai Phong, is the largest container port in northern Vietnam, anchoring extensive manufacturing, industrial and free-trade-zone development that has made the city one of the country's principal economic centers and marine distribution hubs.
