Halisarna

Western Asia

Halisarna was a town of ancient Mysia, on the north bank of the river Caïcus, in what is now northwestern Turkey. Around 486 BCE the Persian king Darius I granted Halisarna, along with the nearby towns of Pergamum and Teuthrania, to the exiled Spartan king Demaratus in gratitude for his help against Greece, and Demaratus's descendants continued to rule the towns into the early 4th century BCE. During the retreat of the Ten Thousand from Persia, Halisarna and Teuthrania sent troops under Procles, son of Demaratus, to attack the withdrawing army.
