Heidetrank Oppidum
Western Europe
The Heidetrank Oppidum, near the town of Oberursel in the Taunus hills of Germany, was one of the most significant Celtic oppida, or fortified settlements, in Europe. Its ramparts extended some ten kilometers and included six gates, and excavations have recovered agricultural implements, tools and coins; the settlement reached its height in the late La Tene period before declining by the middle of the first century BC.
