Hengshui is a prefecture-level city in southern Hebei province, China, on the Beijing-Kowloon railway line, with a population of 4,212,933 at the 2020 census and about 805,000 in the urban area centered on Taocheng district. Known as Peach City and Lake City, it has a long cultural history reaching back to the Three Kingdoms period and is linked to the Western Han philosopher Dong Zhongshu. Hengshui is noted for traditional inside painting on snuff bottles and for heritage sites including the Jingxian Fengshi Tombs, and it has a cold semi-arid climate with hot humid summers and cold dry winters.
