Heracleium, also called Herakleion or Heracleia, was a town in ancient Crete that Strabo describes as the port of Knossos, situated about 20 stadia from that city according to the Stadiasmus. Stephanus of Byzantium lists it as the seventeenth of twenty-three towns he records under the name Heracleia. Though church records do not list it separately as an episcopal see, a bishop of Heracleopolis appears among the Cretan prelates who signed the proceedings of the Second Council of Nicaea.
