Hermosillo, formerly called Pitic, is the capital and largest city of the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora and the municipal seat of Hermosillo municipality, serving as the state's primary economic center. As of 2020 the city had a population of 936,263, making it the 18th-largest city in Mexico, with recent growth driven by expanding industrialization, particularly in the automotive industry.
