Herrnhut

Herrnhut is a town of about 5,700 people in Upper Lusatia, in the Gorlitz district of eastern Saxony, Germany. It was founded in the early 18th century when Count Nicolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf invited Moravian religious refugees to settle on his estates beginning in 1722, and it became the principal settlement of the Moravian Church. The town missionary activity influenced Protestant figures including John Wesley and the rise of Methodism, and in 2024 it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the Moravian Church Settlements, alongside sites in Denmark, the United States and Northern Ireland.
