Herzliya is a city on Israel's central Mediterranean coast in the northern Tel Aviv District, with 110,884 residents in 2024, up from 105,273 in 2022. Founded in 1924 as a semi-cooperative farming settlement and named after Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism, it grew from about 5,300 residents in 1948 to city status in 1960 when its population reached 25,000; known today for its startup and entrepreneurial culture, it includes the beachfront district of Herzliya Pituah, one of Israel's most affluent neighborhoods and home to foreign embassies and corporate headquarters, and the city has among Israel's highest median household incomes.
