Honolulu is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Hawaii, located in the Pacific Ocean, and the county seat of the consolidated City and County of Honolulu on the southeast coast of the island of Oahu. It gained worldwide recognition after the Empire of Japan's attack on nearby Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, which brought the United States into World War II. The city functions as a hub for business, commerce, finance, hospitality and military defense in Oceania.
