Hue

Hue is a municipality in central Vietnam's North Central Coast region and one of the country's six direct-controlled municipalities, serving as an educational, medical and cultural hub, with a population of about 1.69 million as of 2025. It was the capital of Vietnam under the Nguyen dynasty from 1802 to 1945, and its extensive complex of imperial palaces, tombs and temples has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During the 1968 Tet Offensive, the Battle of Hue killed 2,893 American soldiers, more than in any other Vietnamese province, and the city also saw a mass killing of civilians remembered as the Massacre at Hue.
