Imphal is the capital city of the Indian state of Manipur. Its metropolitan center contains the ruins of Kangla Palace, the royal seat of the former Kingdom of Manipur, surrounded by a moat. The city spans parts of Imphal West and Imphal East districts and is included in India's Smart Cities Mission. Imphal is a major commercial hub known for weaving, brass ware, bronze ware and other cottage industries, and the Imphal dialect is the standard form of the Meitei, or Manipuri, language.
