Isfara is a city in Sughd Region, northern Tajikistan, on the border with Kyrgyzstan, with a reported population of about 274,000 in 2020. The Mughal emperor Babur wrote of Isfara's orchards and almonds, and the 16th century saw construction of large public buildings there including mosques and madrasahs; the surrounding Isfara District was merged into the city around 2018.
