Izola is a town on the Adriatic coast of Slovenia's Littoral region and the administrative seat of the Municipality of Izola, ranking among the three major towns of Slovenian Istria. Its name comes from the Italian isola, meaning island, reflecting its history as a separate island that was connected to the mainland in the early 19th century, and its center still occupies the former island site. The town's history spans ancient Roman settlement through Venetian, Austrian, Italian and Yugoslav periods before becoming part of modern Slovenia, with a 2025 population of 11,477.
