Jaffa

Jaffa is an ancient Levantine port city that today forms the southern part of Tel Aviv-Yafo in Israel. Settled during the Early Bronze Age, it served as a major trading port between Egypt, the Levant and Cyprus and appears repeatedly in the Bible, as a boundary of the Tribe of Dan, the port through which Lebanese cedars were imported for the Temple in Jerusalem, and the departure point of the prophet Jonah; most of its Arab population fled or was expelled after the 1948 Palestine War, it was incorporated into Tel Aviv in 1950, and it remains one of Israel's mixed cities, about 37 percent Arab.
