Jaszbereny

Jaszbereny is a city and market center in Jasz-Nagykun-Szolnok county in central Hungary, on the Zagyva River about 60 kilometers from Budapest, with approximately 27,439 residents as of 2019, the second largest settlement in its county. Archaeological finds show human settlement in the area dating back roughly 16,500 years, and in the 13th century it was settled by the Jasz people, of Indo-Iranian origin, with permission from Hungarian rulers. The town served as capital of Jasz-Nagykun-Szolnok County until 1876, when that role passed to Szolnok, and it later industrialized in the mid-20th century after centuries as an agricultural community.
