Jhelum is a city on the western bank of the Jhelum River in northern Punjab, Pakistan, and serves as the capital of Jhelum District. It is nicknamed the City of Soldiers, or the Land of Martyrs and Warriors, because many residents served in the British Indian Army and later in the Pakistan Armed Forces, reflecting the historical characterization of local Punjabi tribes as a martial people.
