Jixi is a prefecture-level city in southeastern Heilongjiang Province, China, on the Muling River about 30 kilometers from the border with Russia's Primorsky Krai and 120 kilometers from Lake Xingkai. At the 2020 census its administrative area of 22,488 square kilometers held 1,502,060 people, with 560,118 living in its built-up area across three of its six urban districts; by the end of 2024 its total registered population had grown to 1,593,200. The city is a significant coal mining base, and a crater on the asteroid 253 Mathilde has been named after it.
