Kadapa is a city in the southern part of Andhra Pradesh, India, in the Rayalaseema region, and the district headquarters of YSR Kadapa district. It lies 8 kilometers south of the Penna River, surrounded on three sides by the Nallamala and Palkonda Hills between the Eastern and Western Ghats, and is nicknamed "Gadapa," meaning threshold, as the gateway from the west toward the hills of Tirumala.
