Kakinada

Kakinada is a city on the Bay of Bengal in Andhra Pradesh, India, serving as district headquarters, with 384,128 residents at the 2011 census, the sixth most populous city in the state. It rose as a major port in the mid-19th century after the decline of nearby Coringa, gaining administrative importance in 1859 and becoming one of India's largest ports during the colonial period, particularly benefiting from cotton exports during the American Civil War; nicknamed the Pensioners' Paradise, it was among the first 20 cities chosen for India's Smart Cities Mission, hosts JNTU Kakinada and Rangaraya Medical College, and is known for the sweet delicacy Kakinada Kaja.
