Kamień Pomorski

Kamień Pomorski is a spa town on the Baltic coast in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship of northwestern Poland, about 63 kilometers north of Szczecin. Founded around the turn of the 8th and 9th centuries by the Wolinian tribe and first documented in 1124, it became the first known capital of the Duchy of Pomerania and, from 1176, the seat of a bishopric. It received Lübeck city rights in 1274, passed to Swedish and then Brandenburg-Prussian control, and returned to Poland in 1945 under the postwar Potsdam border changes. Its population was about 8,921 in 2015, and it remains a seat of the Archdiocese of Szczecin-Kamień.
