Kamnik

Kamnik is the ninth-largest town in Slovenia and the seat of the Municipality of Kamnik, in the Upper Carniola region of the country's north, with 13,768 residents recorded in 2016. Its name was first recorded in the 11th century, and it was mentioned as a town by 1229, when it served as an important trading post on the road between Ljubljana and Celje; during the Middle Ages it had its own mint and stood as a regional power center for Bavarian nobility. The town preserves three castles and a well-preserved Franciscan monastery, and much of its old center reflects Austro-Hungarian era architecture.
