Officially Kaohsiung City, a special municipality in southern Taiwan with a population of approximately 2.72 million, making it Taiwan's third most populous city and the largest in southern Taiwan. After annexing the entirety of Kaohsiung County in 2010, its administrative boundaries expanded from the coastal urban center across wide rural stretches into the wilderness of the Yushan Range, making it Taiwan's largest city by area at 2,952 square kilometers.
