Kazincbarcika is an industrial town in Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen county in northern Hungary, in the valley of the Sajo river 24 kilometers from the county capital Miskolc, with a population of 29,256 at the 2010 census across 36.64 square kilometers. It was created after the Second World War by merging the villages of Sajokazinc and Barcika as part of socialist-era industrialization, gaining town status in 1954 with about 11,000 residents, and grew rapidly to 30,000 by the 1970s around the BorsodChem chemical factory founded in 1949.
