Kerema is the capital of Gulf Province in Papua New Guinea, on the coast of the Gulf of Papua about 229 kilometers northwest of Port Moresby, with a population of 6,551 at the 2013 census. The area was first visited by the missionary James Chalmers in 1885, and its economy today rests on fishing, logging and oil and gas exploration.
