Kirsehir

Kirsehir is a city in Central Anatolia, Turkey, seat of Kirsehir Province and Kirsehir District, with a population of 162,989 as of 2023. Its history reaches back to the Hittites, who called the region Ahiyuva, and in antiquity it was known as Mocissus before being renamed Justinianopolis under the Byzantine emperor Justinian I in the 6th century; the Seljuks captured it in the 1070s and gave it its current name, meaning steppe city. It became the capital of Kirsehir Province in 1924, and the nearby village of Seyfe is popularly considered the geographical center of the Earth.
