Kitchener, Ontario

Kitchener is a city in the Canadian province of Ontario, located about 100 kilometers west of Toronto. It is one of three cities making up the Regional Municipality of Waterloo and serves as that region's administrative center. The city was known as Berlin until a 1916 referendum changed its name. According to the 2021 Canadian census, Kitchener covered an area of 136.86 square kilometers and had a population of 256,885. The wider Regional Municipality of Waterloo had a population of 673,910 at the end of 2023, making it Canada's tenth-largest census metropolitan area and Ontario's fourth-largest. Kitchener and the neighboring city of Waterloo are often called the twin cities Kitchener-Waterloo, though each keeps its own municipal government.
