Klanjec

Klanjec is a small town in the Hrvatsko Zagorje region of northwestern Croatia, in Krapina-Zagorje County near the border with Slovenia, with 2,548 residents in the wider town and 506 in the settlement itself as of 2021. It grew as a suburb of the Cesargrad fortress, first documented in 1399, with Klanjec itself first recorded in 1463, and its name derives from its position at the entrance to the Zelenjak gorge. A Franciscan monastery with the Church of the Annunciation spurred the town's later development, and by the late 19th century it had become a market town and a district seat with its own court.
