Kochi is the capital city of Kochi Prefecture, located on the island of Shikoku in Japan, and with over 40 percent of the prefectural population is the prefecture's main commercial and industrial centre and primate city. As of April 1, 2023, it had an estimated population of 311,224 in 163,479 households and a population density of 1,000 persons per square kilometer, across a total area of 309.00 square kilometers.
