Kokshetau, known as Kokchetav from 1868 to 1993, is a lakeside city in northern Kazakhstan and the capital of Akmola Region. It sits on the southern shore of Lake Kopa within the Kokshetau Hills, part of the wider Saryarka upland system, and takes its name from nearby Mount Kokshe.
