Konya is a major city in central Turkey, on the southwestern edge of the Central Anatolian Plateau, and is the capital of Konya Province. Known in antiquity and the Seljuk era as Iconium, Konya became the capital of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum and is famed today as the home of the mystic poet Rumi, whose tomb and shrine at the Mevlana Museum make the city a major destination for Sufi pilgrimage.
