Kozani is a city in northern Greece, capital of both the Kozani regional unit and the region of Western Macedonia, situated in the northern part of the Aliakmonas river valley at an elevation of 710 meters. It lies 15 kilometers northwest of the artificial lake Polyfytos and 120 kilometers southwest of Thessaloniki, amid the Pieria, Vermio, Vourinos and Askio mountains, and its municipality has a population of over 67,000 within a continental climate of cold, dry winters and hot summers.
