Krapina is a town in northern Croatia and the administrative center of Krapina-Zagorje County, with a total population of 11,530 and 4,201 in its urban core at the 2021 census. It lies in the Zagorje region about 55 kilometers from both Zagreb and Varazdin. Krapina is best known as the site of major Neanderthal fossil discoveries made in 1899, when archaeologist Dragutin Gorjanovic-Kramberger unearthed over 800 fossil remains on the nearby Husnjakovo hill, now marked by a museum dedicated to the finds.
