Krasnodar, formerly known as Yekaterinodar, is the largest city and administrative centre of Krasnodar Krai in southern Russia, standing on the Kuban River. It has a population of 1,154,885, rising to as many as 1.263 million across the Urban Okrug, and rapid population growth over the past decade has made it the tenth-largest city in Russia and the largest city in southern Russia and the Southern Federal District.
