Krasnoyarsk

Krasnoyarsk is the largest city and administrative center of Krasnoyarsk Krai in Russia, situated along the Yenisei River and the second largest city in Siberia after Novosibirsk, with a population of more than 1.1 million. It is an important junction on the Trans-Siberian Railway and one of Russia's largest producers of aluminum, and the writer Anton Chekhov judged it the most beautiful city in Siberia for its natural landscape, which includes the Stolby Nature Sanctuary about 10 kilometers south of the city. Krasnoyarsk is a major educational center in Siberia, hosting Siberian Federal University, and in 2019 it hosted the Winter Universiade, the third such event held in Russia.
