Larinum was a thriving Roman-era settlement of ancient origin in what is now the Molise region of Italy, located in hills roughly 400 meters above sea level not far from the Adriatic coast. Its strategic position, overlooking a large fertile plain and the lower course of the Biferno river, and its place at the junction of important road routes, made it a settlement of considerable importance for trade.
