Lasion

Southern Europe

Lasion was the chief town of the mountainous district of Acroreia in ancient Elis, situated on the frontier with Arcadia near Psophis. It was repeatedly disputed between the Arcadians and the Eleians. Pausanias, king of Sparta, took Lasion during the war Sparta waged against Elis at the close of the Peloponnesian War, and by the peace treaty of 400 BCE Elis was obliged to cede it to the Arcadians. The Eleians briefly recaptured it by surprise in 366 BCE before the Arcadians drove them out again, and Elis held Lasion again in 219 BCE until Philip V of Macedon took nearby Psophis, prompting the Eleian garrison to abandon the town, after which Philip gave it to the Achaeans.
