Lianyungang is a prefecture-level city in northeastern Jiangsu province, China, bordering Yancheng to the southeast, Huaian and Suqian to the south, Xuzhou to the southwest and Shandong province to the north. Its name, meaning Port Connecting the Clouds, derives from Lian Island, the largest island off Jiangsu's coast, and Yuntai Mountain, the province's highest peak near the city center, reflecting its identity as a port.
